Note, the robot no longer exists for one reason or another, but I intend to build a new one :) 27.11.2011 I decided to build a robot. Seems I have been collecting all the right bits needed for such a project, since 1989. I have no prior experience of building such a thing, and haven't designed it on paper or CAD or anything. I have no knowledge of electronics, but I'm starting to pick some up. My soldering skills are non existant, so I'm not soldering anything either. The personality I decided on is that of a stogie chomping US army Sergeant, and so I've called "him" Sergeant Dwayne Rivets. I've sampled myself impersonating a stereotypical Sergeant (from the movies) for use later. Since deciding on this personality I have created a life story for Dwayne. Born in 1964, student, joined army at 19, retired at 47. Now a hippy :) He isn't quite complete yet but so far he is radio controlled, has a webcam for an eye, which i have source code for, which plays sounds on motion, and a couple of patrol lights (LEDs), a moving arm (up and down) and head (left and right), and a "lit" cigar in his mouth, and lights under the wheels. I've also put some old cd's inside the base to make the most of the LEDs. I've also put an old BT phone dial in the front, which flashes an LED on his cap when the dial is used. Balance has been a fair bit of a problem, and his "skirt" dragging on the floor, so he's a little wobbly at the moment, until I secure the base. He is powered with penlight batteries totalling 9 volts so far, but at the moment I've removed all power sources while I work a bit more on the little fella. This is he thus far :) And here's a video of a battle scarred Dwayne |
